Bio
Friendly, experienced music teacher of 35 years. I enjoy working with students of all ages from early Primary to Adults, beginners to advanced level, with any learning ability from any culture. I have studied and worked in Brisbane, Hong Kong, Germany, regional Queensland and the Gold Coast. I have played in professional orchestras and musicals and taught in schools, a university and in my private business. I have won awards for solo and chamber music competitions.
My students have completed AMEB and Trinity College exams from Preliminary to Associate. They have taken part in SHEP programmes, masterclasses and Eisteddfods.
I love meeting new students and finding out about their musical journey and working together to create fun and interesting steps towards their goals.
Teaching Info
I use the AMEB syllabus as a guide for gauging a student’s level and then incorporate music from either the syllabus or other music to develop skills for that level. Depending on each goal, we may work towards a formal exam or a more relaxed way to finish the level, before moving onto the next level.
I use stickers, progress sheets, certificates and homework sheets to give each student encouragement and a structured way of gaining skills. This may cover pieces, theory, aural training, scales, using chords (piano). As each student progresses we may work with particular focus on tone, technique, breathing, vibrato, musical expression, tempos, rhythms, historical background knowledge, posture, presentation, intonation, character and style.
