Bio
Offering comfortable, home lessons for Piano, Music Theory, Songwriting, as well as Piano Accompaniment for music exams and eisteddfods.
Background: I studied piano, music theory, musicology, and pedagogy (music & primary) at the University of Queensland and the University of New England. My knowledge ranges from classical to contemporary styles, whilst also possessing skills in songwriting and composition.
I began teaching in 2009 at Music Makers in Beenleigh as well as privately, and so I am very familiar with the AMEB system, having helped many of my students undertake the graded exams (AMEB Piano & Piano for Leisure, Repertoire, and Comprehensive Grades 1-8) with great success.
My teaching style is fun, engaging, whilst strict where appropriate, as is necessary to develop technical skills and a successful practice routine. I understand the importance of meeting the needs of each student, and so I work to ensure that lessons are tailored accordingly.
I have a broad range of experience teaching young primary children from the ages of 3 to young adults, middle-aged learners, and seniors. I also have some experience teaching disabled children, particularly those with sight-impairments, mild ASD, or diagnosed ADHD.
The nature of lessons are one-to-one, and prospective clients can choose to have their lessons via Skype with two web cameras for their ease of learning, or in my personal studio at home on a university-level upright piano.
As a bilingual, I can give lessons in both English and Japanese.
Lesson rates: $70 per hour, or $35 per half hour from my home studio. $90 per hour or $45 per half hour if I travel to you.
Piano accompaniment rates: $80p/hr for Grades 1-4, and $90p/hr for Grades 5-AmusA. LMusA accompaniments will only be considered with 3 months notice of exams. The waiting and travel time of the accompanist, as well as the exam time are also accounted for in the cost.
The following jobs will only be accepted based on the amount of notice given, with the sheet music required immediately.
Grades 1-3 – one week, with a minimum of one rehearsal prior to exam/performance day.
Grades 4-6 – two weeks, with a minimum of one rehearsal prior to exam/performance day.
Grades 7-8 – 1 month, with a minimum of two rehearsals prior to exam/performance day.
